Deep Tissue Massage

"Deep tissue massage" is a broadly generic term used to describe various massage modalities (specialized techniques).  These modalities are highly effective for relieving tension throughout the many layers of soft tissue in the body, leading to increased range of motion, decreased stress, pain relief, and an overall sense of well-being.

Whether your deep tissue needs are due to repetitive motion, old injuries, post-surgical care, postural imbalances, trauma, migraines, etc., your therapist is skilled and trained to use the best techniques for your desired outcome.

Your therapist may use a combination of the following deep tissue massage modalities in order to best treat your unique set of symptoms:

1.) Myofascial Release: |my-oh-FASH-ee-uhl| A form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the entire body. This is accomplished by stretching the fascia and releasing adhesions between the fascia, muscles and bones. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Direct myofascial release is sometimes known as deep tissue work. Indirect release applies light pressure and gently stretches the fascia; this allows for increased blood circulation and relief from pain.

2.) Orthopedic Massage: A style of manual therapy focused on treating painful conditions that affect the soft tissues of the body. Because orthopedic massage is designed to assess and treat medical conditions, it requires extensive training. During a treatment, your therapist will focus on releasing tight, constricted muscle tissue, stretching and lengthening muscles and tendons, decompressing stiff, rigid joints, and restoring function to weak, inhibited tissues.

3.) Trigger Point TherapyA style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing "trigger points" in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These "knots" are built up throughout a person's life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.

You may specify your preference, if any, when you arrive for your appointment.

Due to the nature of this work, open communication is crucial to ensure your comfort. Mild soreness similar to a moderate workout may be present after the treatment.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of light-medium pressure strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.  This type of massage does not incorporate deep or heavy pressure.

Please Note: Swedish massage is NOT offered in 120 minute increments.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is designed specifically for athletes, whether you're just beginning, or you're a renowned expert in your field. Engaging in sports is often harsh on the body, and can lead to an accumulation of aches and pains over time. Receiving regular sports massage may help improve athletic performance, stamina, and endurance, therefore prolonging your sports career. Sports massage helps athletes both prevent and recover from injury, relieves pain, decreases swelling, relaxes the mind, increases muscle and joint flexibility, and dramatically improves muscle recovery after workouts.

Massage Cupping Therapy

You choose 1 or more areas of specific focus work to be treated by modern cupping therapy with integrated massage.

This targeted type of therapy is excellent for pain management and the relief of muscular tension caused by overuse, repetitive motion injuries, sprains, strains, post-surgery scar tissue, whiplash, TMJD, improving muscle function for athletes, speeding up muscle recovery after extreme workouts, and much more.

Modern Cupping Therapy is the adaptation of an ancient healing method incorporating various types of vacuum cupping equipment, many of which are readily available, easy and safe to use. Your therapist will use either silicone or polycarbonate cups, depending on your individual need and/or preference.

The healing begins when the cups are applied, as they gently lift and separate areas of congested tissue utilizing negative pressure suction. Cupping Therapy can leave marks on the skin, but not always, and they typically disappear after 3-5 days. These marks indicate the vacuuming of old blood, metabolic waste, and cellular debris such as medications, environmental toxins, food dyes, etc. that have become trapped in tight muscle tissue, which have been brought to the surface where the lymphatic system can clear it away. These marks are not bruises, nor are they painful. New, healthy blood is then allowed to flow freely throughout the treated area to speed up the healing process.

Hot Stone Massage

During a Hot Stone Massage your therapist uses smooth, warm, Basalt stones to massage your body. Smooth gliding and kneading techniques combined with the warm comforting heat of the stones promotes the gentle release of stress and tension held in your body and allows you to enter a state of deep relaxation. The overall experience is very relaxing, nurturing, and soothing.

At your request, Hot Stones may be combined with various deep tissue techniques for an even more therapeutic benefit.
